5982 Micro oil pen It may look like a pen, but it contains a liquid of a much higher value: With this smallest and thinnest oil pen we could find on the market, you can now work on a problem that didn't seem to have a solution before: It is a fact that copper oxidizes due to physical stress. As a soft material, it is perfect for the current collecting on the wheels of model trains and on other places. But a permanent current collection is only possible if the µm-thin oxidation layer is being removed mechanically. This is usually done by the so-called warming up, which means that before its intended use, the locomotive is run in circles at a very high speed. Like that, the strong friction of the current collectors on the inner side of the wheels accelerates the abrasion of the thin oxidized layer exactly at this abrasion spot. But when during its actual use the locomotive is only going slowly or passing through curves where the current collector has a slightly different contact to the track, then it often happens that at this other abrasion spot there still exists an oxidation layer. As a result, the locomotive often comes to a halt - which is not really fun. For this problem which couldn't really be solved before, we now found the ideal approach: In the course of a thoroughly cleaning of the locomotive, the copper conductors are cleaned with a fiber glass pen. Then everything has to be cleaned again to make sure that there is absolutely no more dirt in this sensible area. After the locomotive has been re-assembled, the bearings and gearbox parts are lubricated with our mini oil bottle 5981, and then backsides of the wheels are lubricated with our micro oil pen 5982. After this, a short test run is necessary, so that the oil can disperse well on the spots where the current collectors abut on the wheel discs. We have already talked several times about the fact that our oil is not only good for lubrication, but also works very well as a contact agent. This property is exactly what we need here. Our lubricant does not have any cleansing effect, so it can not remove the oxidations. But it has a conserving effect, so it reliably does prevent oxidation. This technique has been thoroughly researched by us in the past, we have been working a long time to find a solution and we also have been searching intensively for suitable materials. The effect won't show in a day, but if a locomotive has not been moved for a longer period of time, you will surely see what a difference the contacts now free of oxidation make for the operation of your trains. This technique can not only be recommended for Z-locomotives, but also for many others. Those with track gauge N can use it just as well, the same applies for HO-direct current locomotives.
